Schaffhausen, Switzerland
It was raining in Luzern today so we decided to go to Schaffhausen as it wasn't meant to rain till the afternoon there. It is a perfect day trip from Luzern as it is only an hour by train. Schaffhausen is considered one of the prettiest towns in Switzerland. It has a medieval Old Town over which the Munot Fortress towers. It is renowned for the number of bay windows and richly painted facades of the buildings is the Old Town. We had trouble finding the Tourist Office from the station but a very nice lady gave us quite specific instructions. We'd never have found it otherwise. The young man in the office who spoke near perfect English, gave us the walking tour map for Schauffhausen. On one side was the town map with all the places of interest numbered and on the back was each of these buildings described in detail. It was really well designed and set out. Weather-wise we were really lucky as we had just finished our tour when the rain started. We decided not to walk to the Schaffhausen Falls in the rain but in the train, on our way home, we went right past them, enjoying a magnificent view from the comfort of the train!
