South Lawson Waterfall Walk, Blue Mountains, NSW
If you love walking past picturesque waterfalls without the crowds, this is the walk for you. Four different waterfalls in a 3km circuit close to the town of Lawson.
This picturesque walk is a well-kept secret in the Blue Mountains. The trail is relatively easy and well maintained although there are some steep stairs in places. It can be a little muddy and slippery in places after rain but this is when the waterfalls are at their best. I love being able to hear water gurgling nearly the whole length of the walk. Trees cover most of the track so it is a perfect escape on a hot summer day. The water is cool for a paddle and there is lovely yellow sand at the base of Federal Falls. A perfect mini-beach. There is a picnic table at Junction Falls but we eat our lunch sitting on the rocks at Federal Falls.
Getting Here
Turn down Honour Avenue from the Great Western Highway. There are several entrances to the falls but probably the easiest is on the corner of Livingstone Street and Honour Avenue. It is easily accessible from the train also as it is only a one kilometre walk from Lawson station. There are no toilets here but the Lawson public toilets are only a short walk away in the centre of the town.
