Favourite Food Treats in Ragusa Ibla, Sicily
I asked the young lady who conducted our tour of the chiesa where she goes for a gelato. "Mastrociliega", she says without any hesitation. "It's my favourite." Just a five minute walk away and here we are studying all the flavours. There are lots of flavours and the staff are very patient and friendly, offering us several tastes. I eventually choose strawberry, almond and stracciatella. We sit at one of the tables outside and enjoy. I think it's the best gelato I've tasted. Mastrociliega can be found on Facebook.
Gelati di Vini
Another favourite gelateria in Ibla is Gelati di Vini. This is the local wine shop but it also makes delicious gelati. They have a lot of very unusual flavours, especially those made with wine. As a moscato fan, I must try the moscato gelato. It certainly didn't disappoint! My triple today is moscato, mango and cinnamon. And of course, there are tables outside where we can sit and enjoy. See their website for details: http://www.gelatidivini.it/
Bistro BianComangiare
After a tour of the Circolo di Conversatione, I ask another of our local guides where to find the best arancini balls. Her suggestion - Bistro BianComangiare. My strategy is always ask the locals. We have to wait ten minutes for a table. The bistro is actually full of locals having lunch - an excellent advertisement. Our waiter suggests trying the Ragusan speciality of scacce tipiche ragusane as well as arancini balls. It's a good choice.
We enjoy our leisurely lunch at the Bistro BianComangiare. The staff are attentive and the food is tasty and hot. Definitely a good choice!
Pasticceria Iudice
Our host Gianni had told us this is the best pasticcheria in Ragusa Ibla. He left us a sample box of little tarts and slices in our apartment as a welcome present. They were so delicious we had to visit the shop ourselves. Inside I'm concentrating so hard on all the different sweet treats that I forget to take a photo. All are beautifully displayed. After quite a few minutes, we eventually choose three pieces each to take home. Each little treat is carefully placed in a box and wrapped. Just perfect to have on our balcony watching the sun set over Ibla. Find them on Facebook for some fabulous photos.
