Snowy Luzern, Switzerland
Luzern is a two hour direct train trip from Interlaken. The countryside is covered with snow all the way and Luzern has several centimetres on the ground. However the roads and footpaths have been cleared and we have no problems pulling our suitcases the short distance across the bridge to our hotel, Hotel des Alpes. Our room is on the top floor with a double length balcony overlooking Mount Pilatus, Chapel Bridge and the Jesuit Church. The best view in Luzern!! A cup of tea while we plan the rest of the afternoon! 1. Our free city guidebooks which I had picked up at the train station each have a voucher inside for a packet of Swiss chocolate from Bachmann's confectionery store in the old town! FREE! That's the first stop. 2. There are two beautiful covered wooden bridges in Luzern dating from the 14th and 15th centuries. Under the rafters of each bridge are a series of paintings. So a must for me is taking a walk over each of these bridges, the Spreuer Bridge and the even more famous Chapel Bridge. 3. Walking back to the station for two more free guide books for two more FREE packets of chocolate tomorrow. 4. Exploring the old town, the snow and the Christmas decorations giving it a marvellous touch, especially when the lights are turned on at dusk.
