Aosta, Italy
Today we woke to heavy snow. It was fabulous except we had to get ourselves to the bus station to catch the bus from Courmayeur to Aosta. We were only about 250m from the bus station so we didn't even bother trying a taxi. With 15 to 20cm of fresh powder snow everywhere, it was impossible to wheel our suitcases so Colin did his weights training and carried the suitcases! Fi carried hers most of the way as well as her skis and boots! The one hour bus trip took an extra twenty minutes with all the snow on the road and it didn't stop snowing the whole trip!! It was also snowing heavily in Aosta! By the time we finished lunch, it had stopped snowing. The road clearers were out, shop keepers and hotel workers were sweeping the paths in front of their premises and people appeared back on the streets. It seemed everyone had their dogs out walking, each dog wearing a coat. I actually saw one dog wearing shoes. I felt so sorry for the other dogs with their paws on the ice or snow! The highlight of the day for me was the Aosta Christmas Markets which are held in the grounds of the ancient Roman theatre. See the next post for all the photos. There is also a Grom Gelataria in Aosta - mandarin and dark chocolate today!
