Siglufjördur, Iceland
Siglufjördur is a small fishing town famous for its herrings. Between the 1900's and the 1960's the little harbour was full of fishing boats. The catch would be unloaded and the women would gut and salt the fish. However the area was over-fished and the herring factory is now a museum.
Each day between May and September the museum opens with a re-enactment of the women gutting and salting the fish in the harbour, then having a singalong just as it was last century.
We had a map of Siglufjördur and one point of interest stood out. Frida's Chocolate!!! Of course we headed in that direction! Dark chocolate with apricot and nuts was delicious! I love the sign above the counter.
