Amalia Hotel, Athens

The View from our Balcony

Room 404 was a deluxe room which had a small balcony overlooking the parliament building and the hill behind it with the Chapel of St George on top.  The down side was that we were on the main road and, as we discovered when we went to bed, very noisy, even with double glazed windows.  We were unable to change rooms as the hotel was fully booked.  However on our return to the hotel a week later after a tour, we were upgraded to a suite which was much quieter.   We had been left a complementary bowl of fresh fruit and a bottle of sparkling water - perfect after a very hot day.  The air-conditioning works perfectly, there is good free wifi and, while there is no kettle in the room, the bar offers complementary pots of boiling water and cups for tea and coffee.  The toiletries are good and plentiful, there are bathrobes and slippers in the wardrobe, and a turndown service at night with complementary chocolate.  The breakfast is superb!  Hot and cold dishes, cereals, lots of fresh fruit, yoghurts, breads, cheeses, salads, croissants, cakes, teas and excellent filter coffee, even Greek coffee.  My favourite was the freshly squeezed orange juice.  The hotel is perfectly placed to walk to all the sights.  After a busy day, the hotel roof garden is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the stunning view of the city and the Acropolis.
