Fribourg, Switzerland

image It's almost Christmas! The shop windows are decorated and the main street has large stars strung from one side to the other. They twinkle brightly in the twilight. Even the train station has a Christmas tree! Many houses have simple decorations which suit the Swiss houses perfectly! Stars are the most common decoration in the streets and the lights are all the clear globes which give off a lovely soft creamy glow. The Christmas trees are decorated with balls, usually red, although sometimes a gold or silver one sneaks in. Mostly red candles are used as well. Fribourg is a university town and most of the students have exams and assignments to finish before the Christmas break. Fiona is no exception and today she has two German exams and an assignment to finish by tomorrow afternoon! Her flatmates are also students, one of whom has become addicted to Vegemite! image But back to our stroll around Fribourg and of course we walk past the cathedral. As we reach the main door, a group of musicians comes out. They have just finished a performance. They stand and chat and then disperse.   We catch the late afternoon train from Fribourg to Lugano in order to catch the Palm Express bus tomorrow morning to St Moritz. We stayed at the Continental Parkhotel, Lugano.  This is a short walk from the station and overlooks Lugano.  It is easy to get to the city centre on a bus, the funicular or a very steep walk which we did several times. www.continentalparkhotel.com

Continental Park Hotel, Lugano
Room 55
We were upgraded to a superior lakeview room with a balcony on arrival.  It was a large room with a European double bed.  Creamy yellow walls and blue patterned bedspread.  There were two chairs upholstered in matching fabric around a coffee table and a desk with another chair in the corner.  There was a really nice ambience to the room.  I had asked if we could have a kettle and there was one provided with two cups and saucers at no charge.  There was a frig but no minibar which I prefer.
The shower was a large separate walk-in shower ( no bath).   No hooks for towels.
Breakfast is a delicious buffet with lots of choices.  The dining room is almost a conservatory with large glass windows and colourful plants.
For a delicious and inexpensive lunch by Swiss standards, try the restaurant in the Manor department store.

Never get so busy travelling

that you forget to have an icecream on the way
