PenPal Fun!

The young couple walk through the hotel doorway and over to reception. I call out "Muriel?" and the young lady turns towards me. "Yes", she replies and smiles at me. She is very slender, dressed in jeans and a black top, and her long dark hair is tied up in a loose knot. She introduces her husband Davide and we sit down for a coffee. Muriel has all the letters Helen wrote to her in a brown paper packet from 16 or 17 years ago! We talk families, jobs, holidays..... Muriel and her husband walk us back to show us their house. It only takes five minutes to walk there as it's just across the river. It's lunchtime. Davide takes us to a good pizzeria where we order Pizza Bormio and a local beer which isn't artificially gassed. Pizza Bormio is so-called because it has Bormio beef on it. The beef is cooked in red wine and spices, sliced very finely and dried. It is 29 degrees in Bormio today so we sit outside under an umbrella. The view is magnificent. Tall, snowcapped mountains surround us, the white of the snow contrasting beautifully with the vivid blue of the sky. We enjoy our meal and the company. We are STILL talking an hour later so Muriel's husband takes us to the Gelataria where we enjoy a delicious gelato each. Raspberry and strawberry again....

Never get so busy travelling
