Perth, WA
Perth doesn't have daylight saving so waking at 4am in Perth is actually 7am in Sydney - my body clock time. It didn't matter as it meant we could enjoy a nice long leisurely breakfast. The hotel gym was too good to miss and after half an hour there, we were ready to walk to King's Park and the WA War Memorial. From the hotel it is a 3km easy walk although it isn't signposted. We could see the war memorial high on the cliff in front of us but couldn't work out how to get there. Once we had walked under the car bridge however, there was a sign pointing to the Kokoda Track. That looked promising! Another 100m or so and we came to a set of steps and a diagram of the Kokoda Track on a metal sign.
The Kokoda Track Memorial Walk
The Kokoda Track Memorial Walk is a tribute to the memory of the Australian troops who fought courageously against the odds in New Guinea during WW2. There are 160 quite steep steps leading up to the War Memorial. Periodically there is a seat to have a rest. Next to the seat is the same diagram of the Kokoda Track as at the beginning but with a marker on it showing how far we had climbed. Our climb was certainly much easier than that of the soldiers!
the Italian Corner
My favourite shop in Perth. Absolutely delicious gelato every time. 140 William Street, Perth
Colin and I shared three scoops - vanilla, hazelnut and caramel/honeycomb. Delicious!! Gelato followed by an apple and that was lunch!
