Mt Roland, Tasmania
Our last flight to Launceston 6 months ago was in the middle of the worst floods since 1929. All we could see then from the plane was water - everywhere! Not so today! Today the view of Evandale, a town near the airport, is picture-perfect. Blue sky, sunshine and a few scattered clouds. Our destination is Mt Roland, 15 minutes from Sheffield in north-west Tasmania. The route takes us through Nowhere Else, The Promised Land and the Village of Lower Crackpot!! Unfortunately our plan to do some walks around Mt Roland was not going to happen. I broke my ankle skiing in Canada so our two bedroom apartment became the perfect spot to read, knit, watch movies, play cards and eat fresh Tasmanian raspberries, cherries and apples! We did have a lovely view of Mt Roland from our dining table and veranda. The sign on our door said friendly possums visit but thankfully we don't have any noises on our roof in the night. It's quiet, peaceful and the perfect place to get away. We flew with Qantas from Sydney to Launceston via Melbourne (Qantas has no direct flights from Sydney to Launceston). www.qantas.com We stayed at AAA The Granary - The Last Resort located at The Promised Land, a 15 minute drive from Sheffield. Our two bedroom cottage has a full kitchen and laundry. Even a veranda with BBQ and outdoor table and chairs and our own backyard looking directly at Mt Roland. Crockery, cutlery, plenty of pots, pans, tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper, plenty of dishwashing liquid. Not a five star but clean, very comfortable and had everything we needed. The shower was good and the bed comfortable. Free wifi although it was slow. For mobile phones, Telstra reception was fabulous. There was a games room with hundreds of videos and games as well as a spa and sauna. For more information, check out their website www.granary.com.au
