Thermal Pools, Moree

It is 9 o'clock at night. Standing in my swimsuit on the edge of the pool, I don't feel at all cold even though it is autumn. The air is still. I dip my foot into the pool. It is so warm!! Well, the sign above does say 39 degrees!!! I ease myself down and sit on the step strategically built around the edge of the pool so that the water just covers my shoulders. What absolute bliss! There is no-one else in the pool so I stretch out and soak. The sign on the fence tells me to stay in only for 15 minutes for my first dip and there is a clock on the wall opposite the pool. After a few minutes, my skin is completely covered with tiny bubbles - it must be all the minerals. When I run my hand along my leg, it looks like I have taken a tractor through a field of wheat and left a completely cleared strip. The bore is 765m deep and the temperature of the water is naturally 39 degrees. There are four pools at the caravan park - the other three are cooled to 37, 35 and 34 degrees with tap water. These are to cool down in. I stay for the recommended 15 minutes then spend a couple of minutes in each of the other pools gradually cooling down. I couldn't really tell the difference in temperature between the other three. A hundred metres walk back to my cabin and I feel so relaxed. No shower before bed - I want to let the minerals stay on my skin. I fall into bed and sleep like a log. The pain in my hip has gone - at least temporarily! We stayed in a one bedroom villa at the Gwydir Caravan Park. Our villa was clean and comfortable. We took our own linen although we could have hired it for ten dollars. The shower had good pressure and was nice and hot. Tea towels, sponge/scourer and detergent were supplied. The staff at the office were extremely helpful and friendly. An extra blanket was not a problem. It was a very busy park with caravans coming and going most of the day but exceptionally quiet at night. We enjoyed a delicious lunch at Cafe Omega in the main street of Moree. After lunch, we had just enough time for a walk along the riverbank before catching our flight back to Sydney. We flew Qantaslink to and from Moree. The service was excellent on both flights with a very tasty snack each way and a glass of wine on the way in to Moree.

Never get so busy travelling

that you forget to have an icecream on the way
