Lockley's Pylon and DuFour's Buttress
For superb views of the Grose Valley and the Lower Blue Mountains one only has to go out the road from Leura towards Mt Hay to signposted area off the bushfire trail. The trail to the parking area can be a bit rough for a sedan in places. From the car park it is a relatively easy 3.5 km walk along a well used track out through heathland to a knoll perched on the edge of the stunning sheer cliffs of the Grose Valley. The top of the knoll is known as Lockley's Pylon and you get a great 360 vista from the top of it. Across the valley are all the lookouts near Blackheath/Medlow Bath extending around to Mt Banks. Looking down the mountains you can see past Mt Hay to the lower mountains townships and the coastal plains below. From Lockley's Pylon the walk can be extended by another km or so out to Dufour's Buttress which is just above the point where the track descends into Blue Gum Forest. Again there are beautiful views into the valley The walk is not long and should take no more than about an hour and a half each way but you can take it more easily and view the windflowers and definitely spend some time just sitting enjoying the views.
